MassChallenge bestows CHF 500’000 CHF on eight startups

Yesterday, more than 450 people gathered to celebrate the winners of the MassChallenge Switzerland 2018 program. Eight startups received a sum of 500k in a zero-equity cash prize. The diamond winner, Scailyte received the highest share of the cash.

The journey of the MassChallenge Switzerland program began four months ago with 51 startups from 30 countries. The cohort enrolled in an acceleration program where they received mentorship, a tailored program, resources to accelerate their efforts and the chance to attract partnerships. Only, twelve startups including nice from Switzerland could further content for the final prize.

Yesterday at the award ceremony, the MassChallenge team hosted an audience of over 450 people from corporate and institutional partners, experts in innovation across industries, and entrepreneurship enthusiasts from around the world. The audience witnessed the bestowal of the CHF 500k cash prize onto eight startups in three categories.

Diamond winner: CHF 100’000
Scailyte uses AI technology to unlock single-cell data for biomedical research, pharmaceutical discovery and precision diagnostics.

Platinum winners: CHF 80’000

EBAMed – the healthcare and life sciences startup developed effective, non-invasive and automated treatments of heart arrhythmias using proton beams.

Prodibi – offers a unique professional image solution that solves all issues of displaying pictures online for any image of any size on any device.

Velox Therapeutics –developed a novel anticoagulant that does not increase the bleeding risk, thus overcoming the safety issues related to current drugs.

Gold winners: CHF 40’000

Association Mobsya – the Renens startup creates and distributes products to help children understand and master digital technologies and sciences thanks to programmable robots.

Biospectal SA  – offers a proprietary solution that transforms any smartphone into a medical device without any additional hardware to measure blood pressure.

Resistell AG – is the world’s fastest antibiotic resistance test. It saves lives by determining the right antibiotic for the patient on time.

FreshStrips (Netherlands) – is a smart-materials/smart-packaging company with an aim to reduce food waste and improve food safety.

Cashback to MassChallenge
Last year MassChallenge awarded the Diamond cash prize of CHF 100k to TasteHit. On that same night, the startup was acquired. Yesterday, Christopher Burger and Alexei Kounine, the co-founders of TasteHit conferred their prize to one of the most promising startups in the 2018 cohort.
